Intrinsic to technological innovation has been the underlying transport layer, or as it’s referred to by businesses as – the enterprise network. For decades, the enterprise network has been synonymous with hardware appliances such as branch office customer premise equipment (CPE) or routers, firewalls, WAN optimization and many more network devices.

At NTT i3, we believe that solutions like Project CloudWAN will create a new “normal” in the networking space, by addressing the network fabric requirements of the future while integrating and leveraging the investments enterprises have made in the past. Our aim is to enable enterprises to reduce wide area networking (WAN) spend, lower technology costs, reduce administration complexity, increase business productivity, and help organizations evolve without the technology limitations imposed on most of them today. We plan to deliver this through NTT Group global operating companies who serve as trusted advisors to their customers across 5 continents.
In collaboration with our operating companies, we are testing Project CloudWAN and gaining deeper insights into how the product can be effectively used to address real-world business challenges in banking, financial services, telecommunications, and pharmaceuticals industries – as well as in partnership with technology providers and consulting firms. In addition to field-testing the technology, we are also finalizing operational and commercial models, including regional go-to-market (GTM) strategies that are compelling for our customers and partners.
The extensive test results have been very positive to date. For example, we were able to successfully connect a new customer’s office to a secure global wide area network within a day. This would have typically taken up to three months if using traditional methods. We also significantly reduced administration complexity by providing the customer with a simple plug-in device that automatically connects and configures itself.
With Project CloudWAN, a skilled engineer no longer needs to visit the location and spend countless hours configuring network devices. This all happens centrally through a cloud controller, where policies are created and pushed down to devices based on specific criteria. Additionally, we push down the appropriate unified threat management (UTM) and WAN optimization network services, including an IoT gateway service. These are all significant changes for business that remove existing limitations.
With Project CloudWAN, we are enabling organizations of all sizes to grow with the speed and flexibility that a global business demands. We help them reduce their networking costs by providing them with a choice to connect through less costly links and dynamically manage reliability, latency and speed.
